How To Overcome The Enemy

When we come to Christ and start living for more than ourselves, we gain a huge target on our backs. We need to understand from scripture how to overcome the enemy!

How To Overcome The Enemy

“And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.” – Revelation 12:11

Every time we seem to make real advances for the kingdom just as quickly as things start moving in our favor, everything just as quickly seems to start to take a turn for the worse.

During these times of adversity, we need to keep our trust and hope in the Lord and not allow the enemy to have a foothold. We so quickly start to doubt and give up just before the breakthrough comes.

Jesus said “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. When we belonged to the world Satan wasn’t against us because we were living for his kingdom. Now he hates us because we are living for God’s kingdom!

We need to remember that the victory is already won in Jesus name. Nothing can stand against the Lord Almighty and if we are in Him Satan has no power over us. The power of Hell is overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word as our testimony as we love not our own lives unto death.

We Overcome By The Blood of The Lamb

Overcoming the enemy starts with life in Jesus Christ. Jesus died on the cross to be an atoning sacrifice for our sins. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” – John 3:16

The key word in this scripture is WHOEVER, this is the good news of the gospel. That whosoever turns toward Him will be saved. The victory over sin was won by the blood of the lamb by the grace of God through faith in Him.

This is a victory that has already been won and a redemptive plan that God had in place before the creation of the world. 1 Peter 1:20 says, “He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.”

I spoke about this victory a few weeks ago in church and the power that comes through salvation. So many Christians come to Christ but think that is the end of their journey when in reality it is just the beginning.

The Bible tells us to submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you. When we are covered by the blood of the lamb, we share in the victory of the cross and the enemy stands no chance against the Lord Almighty.

A life in Christ truly changes us from the inside out, it gives us the ability to draw near to the author and creator of the universe and overcome the enemy. The same power as the mighty strength that He exerted when He rose Christ from the grave and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms lives in us!

How To Overcome The Enemy

We Overcome By The Word of Our Testimony

When we embrace this new life in Jesus, we are brought out of the darkness and into His wonderful light. We need to put that light on display for the whole world to see.

“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”- 1 John‬ ‭3:18

The love of God is so much more than just kind words or gestures. True love is action and sacrifice. Jesus said they will know we are his disciples by this love.

A life lived in Him goes far beyond Sunday morning service, it’s about a new life no longer centered around ourselves. Our testimony should not just be something heard but more importantly something that is seen.

It is so easy to conform to the world around us. Whether we are conforming to fit in at work or school or maybe even conforming to fit in at church. We need to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.

If we recognize this unstable constant state of change within us, we need to be honest with ourselves and bring it before God. Through prayer and immersing ourselves in the word of God, it makes it possible to become alive through the word and truly live out our testimony.

We also need to seize every opportunity we have to do more than just shine the light where it’s comfortable but to step into the darkness and completely change the atmosphere. This is how we can powerfully overcome the enemy by our testimony.

As Christians, we should be the first ones to step up and serve our community and others. We need to be willing to put off the old and become something completely new!

We Overcome By Being A Living Sacrifice

When we truly let go of the flesh and are transformed by the Holy Spirit, our lives really start to take a new direction.

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” – Romans 12:1

Being a Christian isn’t about being a good person, it’s about taking on a servant attitude. The enemy leads us to believe that life is all about us, but this is a complete lie from Hell.

When we live a self-centered life, we isolate ourselves from creation and our creator. It’s a life that only leads to ruin and loneliness.

The second verse in Romans 12 tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our mind. When we see the joy we receive from serving others, we begin to truly see the world the way it was created to be.

The world tries to teach us that we need to love ourselves or we can never be happy. But there is so much freedom in letting go of yourself and pouring out our time and energy into others.

This doesn’t mean that we hate ourselves and forget any goals or dreams we have ever had! It simply means we put ourselves last and trust that the dreams God put on our hearts will come to pass as we trust in Him and pour into His kingdom not our own.

In John Chapter 13 we see Jesus wash his disciple’s feet. This is the creator of all things who became flesh now taking such a low position as to wash his disciple’s feet.

Jesus said, “I have set you an example that you should do to others as I have done to you.” That’s amazing but it seems so backward when we live in a world that tells us we need to do whatever it takes to get to the top.

I have never been happier or felt more content or fulfilled in life than I do right now. This feeling isn’t because of what I’ve gained or where I stand in the world, but because of everything I have let go of.

It is truly freeing to be made new in Christ and let go of the world that brought so much struggle and pain. Now I wake each morning, pray, and take on whatever the Lord has me do that day for the Kingdom.

We can’t overcome the enemy until we are freed from the chains of his world. Jesus said, “everyone who sins is a slave to sin.” He also said, “if the son sets you free you will be free indeed.”

Only Jesus can set us free from the bondage of sin. Being a Christian isn’t about not sinning, it’s about being given an opportunity to not sin through life in Jesus Christ. Without the blood of the lamb, we can’t truly turn from sin.

Once we are free, the enemy turns against us, but as we grow in faith and wisdom we begin to see that he stands no chance and is already defeated.

We need to constantly remember to turn to prayer and submit to God when the enemy comes against us. Remember the battle has already been won!

We have overcome the enemy by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony not loving our own lives unto death!
